Job Description

Associate Veterinarian – General Practice & Urgent Care

San Antonio Metro, Texas | Full-Time

If you like the variety of general practice but also enjoy the faster pace and problem-solving that comes with same-day urgent cases, this one offers a little of both.

DVM Focus is recruiting an Associate Veterinarian for a small animal practice in the San Antonio metro area. The role blends traditional general practice with urgent care, creating a varied caseload without requiring overnight emergency hospitalization.

You’ll join an experienced, collaborative veterinary team with an emphasis on quality medicine, professional growth, and a supportive working environment.

What You’ll Do

Your caseload may include:

• Wellness and preventive care
• General medicine
• Diagnostic workups and case management
• Same-day sick and urgent cases
• Routine procedures and surgery
• Client education and communication
• Collaboration with veterinarians and support staff

This is a good fit for a veterinarian who enjoys variety and wants exposure to both routine and more time-sensitive cases.

What They’re Looking For

• DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree
• Active Texas veterinary license or ability to obtain one
• DEA license or ability to obtain one
• USDA accreditation or ability to obtain it
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to high-quality patient care
• Comfort working with a varied small animal caseload

Veterinarians at different stages of their careers are encouraged to apply, and mentorship and professional development are available.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation is competitive and includes production opportunities.

The overall package may also include:

• Flexible scheduling
• Medical, dental, and vision coverage
• Paid time off
• Continuing education allowance
• Mentorship and professional development
• Support from an experienced veterinary team
• Access to modern diagnostics
• Additional DVM benefits based on eligibility

Why This One Is Worth a Conversation

This opportunity gives you the variety of urgent medicine without moving fully into traditional ER practice.

You can continue building relationships with clients and managing routine cases while also handling same-day illnesses and injuries that require faster clinical decision-making.

For a veterinarian who likes variety and wants a role that sits between traditional GP and emergency medicine, it’s worth exploring.

DVM Focus will walk you through the practice, schedule, compensation structure, and expectations before an introduction is made so you can decide whether it actually fits what you’re looking for.
