Job Description

The role involves assisting during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining a sterile surgical field and providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. The position also includes participating in unit activities that promote high-quality patient care and functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Job Functions

• Demonstrate expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, integrating knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures with the application of tools and technologies during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• Maintain and verify all items for proper packaging, processing, seal integrity, and expiration dates to ensure a safe operating environment and proper equipment functionality during surgical procedures.
• Monitor the sterile field for contamination events and initiate corrective actions under supervision when necessary.
• Work towards achieving competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
• Maintain flexibility while contributing to the individualized delivery of care within the defined scope of practice.
• Exhibit effective and timely communication with the perioperative team, fully participating in the Time Out Process, including briefings and debriefings.
• Assist the team with patient transport, room turnovers, and preparation.
• Model professional behavior, including keeping current with new technologies and procedures relevant to instrumentation and equipment.
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Demonstrate adherence to the principles of a Just Culture in the workplace.

Experience and Qualifications

• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
• Licensure as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado is required.
• Current BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
• Ability to obtain necessary computer skills within 90 days for completing online learning and accessing forms and policies.
• Proficiency in the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
