Project Quality Manager I — Pasadena, TX

A Project Quality Manager I works on the owner's or EPC contractor's side of a capital project, supporting the project quality program rather than running a contractor's QC crew: performing surveillance of contractor and supplier quality activities, reviewing quality documentation and inspection records, tracking audit findings to closure, and reporting quality status to the project quality lead. It suits an inspector or QC engineer who wants to see quality from the side that writes the requirements. Responsibilities Perform quality surveillance of contractor and supplier work against the project quality plan and specifications Review contractor QC plans, ITPs, inspection records, and material certifications for completeness and compliance Track audit findings, nonconformances, and corrective actions in the project quality database Witness hold and witness points and document the results Prepare weekly quality status inputs for the project quality manager Qualifications 3+ years in quality control, inspection, or QA on construction or industrial projects Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management principles a certification such as ICC, NICET, CWI, or CIP is a strong plus Comfortable reading specifications, procedures, and inspection records and finding the gaps Clear written reporting organized under document-heavy work What a week in this job looks like Your week alternates between the field and the documents: witnessing a hold point on Tuesday, reviewing the contractor's inspection records for last week's work on Wednesday, and running down why an audit finding from last month is still open on Thursday. The skill is seeing where the record and the work disagree before the owner's auditor does. The Project Quality Manager you report to sets the surveillance plan; you execute it and bring back evidence — photographs, signed records, test data — rather than impressions. Sponsored training includes ISO 9001 internal auditor certification and the inspection certifications relevant to your projects; the next seat is Project Quality Manager II, owning surveillance for a full project. Pay, schedule, and travel Pay runs $90,000 to $110,000 depending on certifications held, verified experience, and the program you are assigned to. The rhythm follows the project's audit and milestone calendar more than the daily pour schedule: surveillance and audits are planned weeks ahead, and turnover pushes the pace at the end. Texas positions are dispatched from the Sugar Land headquarters; project-site positions elsewhere are staffed on a project basis with travel and per diem as assigned, and the listing for your city says which one it is.
