EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST - CARDIAC REHAB

Position Summary

The Exercise Physiologist evaluates and documents functional status of patients based upon strengths, needs, abilities and preferences and establishes and documents treatment based on evaluations in accordance with accepted Cardiopulmonary Rehab programs

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology/Science or Master of Science in Exercise Physiology/Cardiopulmonary Rehab.

• EKG interpretation required within 6 months.

• Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.

• Must be computer literate to complete task(s) as required.

Responsibilities & Expectations

• Clinical
  • Performs assessments, evaluations and re-evaluations; establishes treatment programs for all assigned Cardiac Rehab & Pulmonary Clients.
  • Participates in development and implementation of patient exercise prescriptions.
  • Completes all required documentation for evaluations, progress notes, and discharge in Q-tel system and/or paper format.
  • Updates the referring practitioner on the patient's progress, through progress reports.
  • Assists with the organization's performance improvement plan.
  • Assists with housekeeping duties in department.
  • Assists with inventory and stocking of department supplies.
  • Follows all policies and procedures in appropriate manuals, employee handbooks, and safety manuals.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment, techniques, and procedures as required. May be involved in development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes and practices the highest level of integrity and honesty in maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Cardiac & Pulmonary disease processes.
  • Updates educational materials, policy and procedures, and education materials as needed
  • Performs all duties assigned by Director, Clinical Coordinator, or Medical Director.

• Educational
  • Assists in educational instruction of patient according to Cardiac Rehab & Pulmonary Program.
  • Presents in-services for staff education.
  • Attends special courses, conferences and seminars outside the hospital for continuing education as approved by Manager and Administration.
  • Performs duties as a Clinical Instructor with students assigned.
  • Participates in staff proficiency testing.
  • Responsible for checking e-mails and on-line learning assignments (Swank) on a regular basis.

Working Conditions

• Shifts are variable and based on class times and volume.

• Lunch periods and breaks are taken when the department is closed between 11am and 12pm.

• Cross training in stress is required.

Hazardous Exposure Category

Category II - Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues by exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures will be readily available to every employee engaged in Category II tasks.
