Elementary School Science Long Term Substitute Teacher (Grades K-5)

This is a full-time temporary position.The Long Term Substitute Science Teacher is a professional, experienced and passionate educator with demonstrated teaching experience in inquiry-based science education at the elementary school level (grades K-5).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPlan and teach science twice weekly for each class and five small group math classes per week for elementary school grades, K-5Adapt conventional and unconventional curriculum tools to explore science and engineering topics with studentsEncourage students to ask questions, express their opinions, and make the mistakes necessary for productive inquiry-based learningIncorporate multiple techniques of instruction, including discussion, hands-on labs and activities, scientific writing and drawingUnderstand lower and upper elementary students’ developmental milestones and socio-emotional livesEnsure students are engaged through activities and technology that accommodate various learning styles, personality styles, behavioral styles, and the need for physical movementMaintain and communicate high expectations and boundaries in a consistently kind, clear and respectful mannerAbility to work both independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary teamAbility to work with families upon request and attend all conferencesFollow the interests of students in a measured and meaningful waySupervise students during some recesses and lunch each weekDemonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, New Roads philosophy and approach to educationDemonstrate commitment to working with a diverse communityExperience and interest in differentiated instruction, project-based, constructivist approach teaching and learningExcellent classroom management skillsAbility to work independently and as a member of a teamPassion for teaching and understanding of and respect for students’ individual learning stylesBachelor degree required in subject area3-5+ years teaching experience requiredPlease submit online application, cover letter, and resume at: salary range for this role is $1,000 - $1,480 weekly.
