Clinical Support Manager

SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services) transforms communities to support the well-being and prosperity of children, youth, and families. SBCS provides a wide range of services tailored to meet each client's unique needs. At SBCS, our client-centered approach highlights the importance of respect, empathy, and compassion when interacting with all community members.

Under the supervision of the Department Director, the Clinical Support Manager will serve Probation staff working in institutions at Youth Transition Campus (YTC) and East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility (EMJDF), to give them support including individual & group consultation and linkage to community resources. The Clinical Support Manager will be a leader in the development and enhancement of a trauma-informed environment and team. The Clinical Support Manager will also support clinicians working with youth on probation in custody and in the community with mental health and trauma informed services, bolstering positive youth development, and reducing recidivism and reliance on incarceration for non-compliance with probation terms. The Clinical Support Manager also serves as a link to the Program Coordinator and to the Clinical Director in their support of SBCS staff working with Probation youth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide development, support and services to Probation staff who work in institutions at the Youth Transition Campus (YTC) at 2801 Meadow Lark Dr., San Diego, CA 92123 and East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility (EMJDF) at 446 Alta Rd, San Diego, CA 92158.
  • Establish trusting, reliable, and respectful relationships with Probation officers and staff.
  • Provide individual counseling, group support and consultation to staff as needed.
  • Clinical Support Manager shall establish regular working hours at YTC.
  • Serve as a resource to staff by maintaining comprehensive knowledge of their county benefits, including private insurance supports, and additional resources in their community.
  • Proactively reach out to staff experiencing hardships, provide counseling, and link to County-funded and community-based services.
  • Shall only provide services to Probation staff, sworn and professional, and not to youth in custody except in emergency situations and with approval by the Watch Commander.
  • Plan and develop wellbeing and stress-management activities that align with institutional schedule and is responsive to staffs' needs.
  • Facilitates staff problem solving and service provision.
  • Participates in individual and group clinical/reflective supervision.
  • Attend Probation meetings, shift briefings, and administrative meetings as needed.
  • Comply with the County procedures and regulations cited in the "Summary of Policies Regarding County Data/Information and Information."
  • Maintain data on contacts, programming, and referrals in ETO daily.
  • Attends & actively participates in team meetings, department meetings, agency meetings, trainings and other committee meetings as assigned.
  • As other duties assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in social work, psychology, or related with current BBS registration as LCSW, LMFT, LPCC or ASW, Associate LPCC or IMF
  • At least two (2) years' experience working with staff working in institutions as well as at-risk and diverse youth, preferred.
  • Trained in the assessment and treatment of substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Experience preferred in community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with co-occurring (dual diagnosis) disorders, with a strong foundation in trauma-informed care practices.
  • Must remain flexible and easily adapt and respond to crisis situations
  • Ability to maintain a clear and focused outlook under pressure.
  • Detailed-oriented and focused.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and develop new skills.
  • Affinity for problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
  • Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, (including THC and CBD), in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
  • Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver's license and valid auto insurance policy.

Physical Demands:

  • Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.
  • Moves throughout the building.
  • Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking)
  • Ascending or descending stairs and ladders when applicable. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery.
  • Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
