The law clerk position will be open until filled.CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under direct supervision of a departmental supervisor or attorney, conducts legal research, edits legal documents, and prepares motions and briefs. Summarizes records, depositions, background information, and other legal documents regarding contacts with clients for use by attorneys. May assist attorney for trial preparation. Performs related professional and administrative duties. This classification is intended to provide the incumbent with broad exposure to the Legal Department and to the practice of law; specific duties will vary according to the business needs of the department. The employee receives assignments from the supervisor, who defines objectives, priorities, and deadlines, and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents.Performs legal research regarding HACLA litigation or transactional matters under attorney supervision; prepares legal education and training materials for Legal staff and employees throughout the agency; and prepares and updates reports and correspondence.Assists in the development and implementation of agency policies and procedures; interprets federal or state statutes as well as HACLA policies under attorney supervision.Assists in the review and revision of existing agency policies and procedures as well as the review, revision and creation of forms and documents to ensure they are compliant with law and best practices.Assists with records retention in the department and throughout the agency.Assists with discovery and unlawful detainer actions under the supervision of an attorney.Works with other departments and agencies to gather and disseminate information.Researches best practices of legal departments and public housing agencies.Develops and maintains departmental databases, records, and documentation; completes, types, copies, and files standardized documents; informs supervisor of policy and procedural activitiesMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's Degree.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Either (1) enrollment in an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school of law or (2) graduation from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school of law.APPLICATION PROCESS: Applications will be reviewed for relevant experience, education, and/or training.
