Unity is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the individuals and families we serve through accessible, patient-centered care.Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Assistant Manager, the Medical Assistant provides basic patient care in a correctional health center setting. The Medical Assistant is an integral member of the care team responsible for supporting clinical operations, assisting providers, and ensuring efficient patient flow while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain patient and Electronic Health Record (EHR) confidentialityPrepare patients and EHR for provider visits and assist during examinations as neededObtain and document vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, and patient medical historyPerform routine clinical and laboratory procedures, including urine dipsticks, phlebotomy, finger/heel sticks, injections, immunizations, and EKGsMaintain cleanliness, organization, and supply levels in clinical areasSupport pre-visit planning for Primary Provider and PCMH team workflowsProvide basic chronic disease education to patients as neededCoordinate referrals, appointments, and follow-up for patientsCommunicate effectively with providers and care team to ensure continuity of careMaintain clinical logs, equipment checks, and sterilization processesAdhere to Universal Precautions and Unity Health Care policies and proceduresPerform other duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredCertification as a Clinical Medical AssistantCurrent BLS + AED CPR certificationStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work effectively in a correctional health setting and with diverse populationsWhy Join Unity?Be part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to serving underserved communitiesMake a meaningful impact on patient care and health outcomesWork in a collaborative and supportive healthcare environmentGain valuable experience in a correctional health settingContribute to high-quality, patient-centered care that improves lives in Washington, DC
