JOB TITLE: Behavioral Health Intern OPENING DATE: Monday, October 19, 2026 CLOSING DATE: 5:00 PM on Monday, November 2, 2026 SALARY RANGE: Up to $17 per hour JOB TYPE: Part-time, Unclassified DEPARTMENT: Community Services LOCATION: Domicile work location is Lockport, LA with travel to the satellite office in Cut Off, LA Job Summary: The Counseling/Therapy Student Intern will provide brief mental/behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and adults in the Lafourche Parish Brief Therapy Center. The Counseling/Therapy Student Intern will be responsible for building a therapeutic rapport, completing the initial assessment, developing a treatment plan, conducting counseling/therapy sessions, assisting with referrals, and maintaining clinical records. Essential Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty at a high level. Not all possible tasks are included. Other additional departmental duties may be assigned. Conduct thorough initial evaluations to quickly identify key presenting problems and treatment goals; Provide services to a variety of clients of varying ages and presenting issues; Utilize specific therapeutic approaches designed for brief therapy; Maintain clinical records in a timely fashion; Emphasizes strategies and coping mechanisms to address immediate challenges and promote positive change; Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical work; Maintain confidentiality and accurate case files, paperwork, and billing procedures to address client needs; Promote program services through community events and interagency collaboration; Monitor adherence to professional ethics, state and federal regulations. Adhere to ethical guidelines for maintaining client confidentiality and appropriate boundaries within the brief therapy model; Prepare clients for the conclusion of therapy by reviewing progress and developing strategies for maintaining gains; Communicate openly with Brief Therapy Counselor to endure proper supervision is provided. NOTE: All parish government employees in a declared emergency shall be considered essential personnel. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and experience: Currently enrolled in a practicum or internship course through a Master’s level degree program in pursuit of a license as a Professional Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist, or Social Worker. Strong communication and problem-solving skills Ability to work in a fast-paced client-centered environment Successful passing of pre-employment screenings. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT A valid Louisiana Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT Personal computer skills, including software, Microsoft Office; copy machine; fax machine; automobile. The intern may have direct contact with clients and participate in outreach or educational events in the community.
