DESCRIPTION

The Dosimetrist designs radiation treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique per the physician’s prescription to a defined tumor volume. This role considers dose-limiting structures in the design of treatment, and plans and documents dose in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription. Additionally, the Dosimetrist provides physics and technical support to the relevant staff and faculty in radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of the radiation oncology equipment. The dosimetrist also assists in intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy procedures and helps in the application of specific methods of dosimetry, including ion chamber, TLD, or film measurement, as directed by the Chief Dosimetrist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a Medical Dosimetry JRCERT-accredited program. Minimum one (1) year of training in Dosimetry. One to three (1-3) years of experience is preferred. Certified Medical Dosimetrist issued by MDCB (CMD) is required to be considered at the Sr. Dosimetrist level. Minimum three (3) years of dosimetry experience is also required to be considered at the Sr. Dosimetrist level. Must be proficient in 3D, IMRT and treatment planning. Must be familiar with the operation of linear accelerators, simulator, and CT units. Demonstrated knowledge of treatment planning systems and departmental R/V systems. Strong attention to detail and must possess superior aptitude for producing error‑free calculations. Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem‑solving in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient care. Must possess knowledge and understanding of current practices in radiation therapy, planning, and administration. Ability to accurately document patient care activities in accordance with institutional and cancer center guidelines. Excellent organizational skills to determine workload priorities to enable timely completion of tasks. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work with medical staff, paramedical staff, patients, and patient families.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working in a training and academic environment. Experience with clinical trials. Experience with SBRT and SRS treatment planning. Experience with Varian Eclipse and the Aria environment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. May need to support several locations on site or via remote access (Hillcrest, Encinitas). Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $156,120 - $194,121 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $74.77 - $92.97
