Job Opportunity – Medical Social Worker – Torrance, CA 90503

Start Date: July 13, 2026

Location: Torrance, California – Acute Care Facility

Schedule: Day shift, 5x8-hour (08:00 - 16:30). Every other weekend required with holiday coverage. Weekend assignments include coverage of up to 2 units with focus on discharge planning. Case load up to 25 patients, with patient ratios of 1:35.

Highlights:

• 13-week travel assignment (91 days) in a dynamic acute care setting
• Work with diverse patient populations including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics
• Collaborative interdisciplinary environment with IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services support
• Dual role combining care coordination and discharge planning responsibilities
• Epic charting system utilized for computerized documentation
• 40 hours of paid orientation provided

Requirements:

• Master of Social Work (MSW) degree required
• Minimum 2 years of acute hospital case management experience required
• Previous travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
• California state social work license preferred; pending license accepted
• Epic charting system experience required
• Knowledge of drug/alcohol abuse treatment options, homelessness resources, mental health crisis intervention, and POLST required
• Experience with 5150/involuntary holds, discharge planning, care coordination, advance directives, and Medicare/Medicaid processes
• Ability to organize and participate in family meetings and treatment plan development
• Must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• Maximum 7 days of requested time off during assignment
