MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Maintenance Mechanic

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Marketing and Development is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic. This position requires two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience. Requires possession of a valid driver license.

Job duties include making minor carpentry, roofing, electrical, and plumbing repairs; installing, maintaining, and repairing buildings' electrical and mechanical equipment; repairing, preparing, and painting interiors and exteriors of buildings; working with Department of Corrections inmates performing regular custodial and/or maintenance work; operating and maintaining yard maintenance equipment; maintaining market grounds; performing various cement/concrete work; making minor welding/brazing; making minor asphalt repairs; maintaining and making minor repairs to market vehicles; maintaining inventory of building, maintenance, cleaning, and restroom supplies; maintaining, operating, and keeping inventory of shop tools; cleaning and stocking public restrooms; and performing other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge of general principles of carpentry, masonry, electricity, plumbing, and mechanical work, using safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work; skilled in welding and brazing; skilled in using tools and equipment required in maintenance and repair work; ability to read blueprints and take accurate measurements; ability to make accurate mathematical calculations; ability to communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and to follow instructions; ability to plan, organize, coordinate work assignments, and work independently; and ability to lift 50 lbs.
