CABVI is seeking a part-time lifeguard to be responsible for ensuring the safety of program participants in our aquatic facility. The Lifeguard will explain in detail the safety rules of the water to all visitors, maintain order of the water area, inspect and maintain pool equipment, and actively maintain a safe swimming environment for all participants. 

KEY JOB ELEMENTS

Provide a thorough review of swim rules, safety guidelines and emergency protocols to all program participants. Supervise swimming activities at the aquatic facility and ensure that all policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed. 

• Actively scans pool at all times, refrains from socializing while lifeguarding.

• Warn swimmers of danger or improper actions and enforce pool regulations. Enforce water safety rules, eject any swimmers or staff who are harmful to themselves or others.

• Evaluate all conditions for safety and initiate aquatic emergency action plan as needed. 

Provide leadership during any water emergency.

• Administer first aid in the event of injury.  Administer CPR and/or artificial respiration if needed.  Rescue swimmers from drowning. Complete any follow-up documentation as needed.

• Thoroughly assess the swimming ability of each participant prior to allowing any aquatic program participation.

• Ensure all rescue equipment is present and in proper working order.

• Inspect pool equipment to ensure that it is safe and usable. Do not allow swimmers into the pool areas until all of the aforementioned is complete.

• Use a whistle to secure the attention of all swimmers and staff as needed.

• Clean up the pool area after program completion and ensure the cover is in place.

• Complete all other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor

Requirements

• High school or equivalent education
• Minimum of one year of lifeguarding experience
• Red Cross or equivalent lifeguard certification
• Current certifications in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and First Aid
• Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
• Must be able to make level-minded, quick decisions
• Must be proficient in the use of all aquatics, safety, and first aid equipment.
• Regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Endurance to all water types over prolonged periods of time required.
