Wildlife Biologist - On-Call

Responsibilities Provide environmental consulting services including construction monitoring, avian species identification, nest surveys, biological field surveys, and field support Assist with writing and reviewing Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, technical memos, and supporting documents Plan and execute field assignments for southern and central California-based work Conduct general and species-specific biological surveys and construction compliance monitoring Document field findings in monitoring logs, reports, memos, and email communications Communicate with client field contacts, ICF project managers, and senior biologists Travel to remote field sites in counties including Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, Tulare, Inyo, Kings, Fresno, Madera, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Provide as-needed field and office support to local and regional Natural Resource team members Requirements Bachelor's Degree Must have a valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicles Records (MVR) check 1+ years of environmental/consulting and biological field experience Prior construction field compliance monitoring on 2+ projects, including 6+ months of total field compliance monitoring experience Avian nest monitoring and species identification skills, with nesting bird surveys and avian habitat assessments on 3+ projects, including at least 2 in the southwestern U.S. Experience leading all three phases of western burrowing owl protocol surveys on 3+ projects, including positive identification of individual owls in the wild Experience conducting native special status reptile or amphibian species surveys or monitoring on 3+ projects with positive results and target-species identification Experience leading field surveys or trapping for small mammals on 3+ California projects, including possession of a CDFW scientific collecting permit Basic documentation and data management experience Experience in environmental compliance and/or construction fields Basic botanical knowledge of central and southern California, with participation in 5+ rare plant surveys and habitat mapping assessments in California, including at least 3 in southern or central California Geographic Information System (GIS) software skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Strong written and oral communication skills Strong organizational skills Ability to respond promptly to deployment requests, sometimes the next day Ability to travel to field sites in central and southern California and work in rugged, undeveloped terrain Ability and experience conducting work at active construction sites and communicating with construction foremen and equipment operators Proficiency in MS Office applications: Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in environmental consulting, including biological field surveys, avian species identification, and construction compliance monitoring.
