PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Job Summary

The Program Director is responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of AYES youth programs, supporting staff and contractors, maintaining strong community partnerships, and ensuring programs meet organizational goals and funder expectations.

This role is ideal for a collaborative leader who enjoys working directly with youth while also managing the administrative systems needed to operate an effective nonprofit program.

 

Job Responsibilities

Work Structure

This position includes a blend of onsite leadership, community engagement, and administrative responsibilities:

• 40% On-Site Program Leadership
• 10% Local Travel to schools, meetings, events, and partner locations
• 50% Administrative Responsibilities including planning, reporting, documentation, communication, and program management

Some evening and occasional weekend hours may be required for youth events, family activities, training, and special programming.

Program Leadership & Youth Development

• Oversee daily after-school and summer programming to ensure safe, engaging, and high-quality experiences for youth.
• Coordinate enrichment activities, youth events, and field trips.
• Monitor program outcomes, attendance, and participant engagement.
• Ensure programs align with organizational goals and grant expectations.

Staff Supervision & Team Development

• Support, supervise, and develop program staff and contractors.
• Facilitate staff meetings, training, and professional development.
• Provide guidance, feedback, and accountability to strengthen program delivery.

Community Partnerships & Family Engagement

• Build positive relationships with students, families, schools, and community partners.
• Serve as a professional representative of AYES.
• Coordinate communication with school administrators, transportation providers, and enrichment partners.

Operations & Compliance

• Maintain accurate program records, attendance documentation, and reporting requirements.
• Support grant compliance, evaluations, and organizational reporting.
• Ensure adherence to youth safety, confidentiality, and organizational policies.

Administrative & Financial Support

• Assist with program budgeting, purchasing, and resource management.
• Track program expenses and operational needs.
• Support the Executive Director with program updates, planning, and organizational improvement efforts.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, nonprofit management, human services, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience working with youth, families, schools, or community-based programs.
• Experience supervising staff, contractors, or volunteers.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
• Experience with grant-funded programs and reporting preferred.
• Experience using Salesforce or similar data systems preferred.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally.
