Exo delivers engineering, inspection, and remediation services for lighting poles, transmission towers, and other infrastructure exposed to ongoing wear from usage, aging, and environmental conditions. With deep expertise in vertical infrastructure, Exo builds on years of engineering design and fabrication experience across utilities, telecom, transportation, and retail sectors. This foundation supports a comprehensive inspection and asset management approach that addresses both new installations and aging structures requiring immediate attention. Recognizing that full replacement is often impractical due to cost and safety constraints, Exo developed its “Ex-Tend” approach to manage assets throughout their entire life cycle. From initial quality assurance to ongoing inspection and targeted repairs, this method is designed to extend service life and improve reliability. Supported by data-driven insights, EXO helps clients monitor asset conditions and make informed, strategic decisions. Position Summary: The Construction Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, execution, and performance of multiple field construction projects involving the remediation, structural repair, and maintenance of utility structures, including transmission towers, lattice structures, concrete foundations, and associated infrastructure. This position provides leadership to multiple Construction Superintendents and their field crews, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with engineering specifications, client expectations, and regulatory requirements. The Construction Manager serves as the primary operational leader for field construction activities, partnering closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Safety, Quality, Equipment, and Executive Leadership to drive operational excellence, maximize productivity, develop field leaders, and ensure consistent execution across multiple concurrent projects throughout the country. Key Responsibilities Operations Leadership Lead multiple Construction Superintendents overseeing projects across various geographic regions. Provide strategic direction and operational support to ensure consistent execution across all assigned projects. Develop manpower plans and allocate personnel, equipment, and resources to maximize efficiency. Monitor project performance related to safety, schedule, quality, productivity, and profitability. Conduct regular field visits to coach Superintendents, evaluate project performance, and ensure company standards are consistently met. Ensure effective communication between field operations, project management, engineering, estimating, and executive leadership. Develop and implement best practices that improve construction operations and project execution. Support business growth by identifying opportunities for operational improvements and increased efficiency. Directly supervise multiple Construction Superintendents. Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate Construction Superintendents and other field leadership. Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, mentoring, and corrective action when necessary. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. Assist in succession planning and leadership development within field operations. Promote employee engagement and retention through effective leadership and communication. Project Execution Oversee multiple utility construction and structural remediation projects simultaneously. Review project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and production goals with Project Managers. Ensure projects are properly staffed with qualified personnel and appropriate equipment. Monitor project schedules and proactively address risks affecting production or client commitments. Assist Superintendents in resolving complex field issues and unforeseen project conditions. Ensure proper coordination with subcontractors, utility representatives, inspectors, and engineering teams. Participate in project kickoff meetings and major client meetings. Support project closeout activities and lessons learned initiatives. Structural Remediation & Utility Construction Oversight Provide leadership and oversight for projects involving: Structural steel repair and reinforcement Lattice transmission tower repairs Foundation rehabilitation and replacement Concrete restoration and structural concrete placement Epoxy injection and grout repair Reinforcing steel installation Jackhammering and concrete removal Excavation and backfilling Heavy equipment operations Utility right-of-way construction Transmission and distribution infrastructure repairs Monitor labor productivity and equipment utilization across all assigned projects. Review project costs and identify opportunities to improve profitability. Assist with forecasting manpower, equipment, and operational needs. Review production reports and key performance indicators (KPIs). Collaborate with Project Managers to minimize cost overruns and schedule delays. Participate in operational planning and budgeting processes. Ensure efficient utilization of company assets and field resources. Safety Leadership Champion a proactive safety culture across all field operations. Ensure Construction Superintendents consistently enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Review safety performance metrics and develop action plans for continuous improvement. Participate in incident investigations and corrective action implementation. Conduct periodic safety audits and field observations. Promote hazard recognition, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and daily safety planning. Ensure compliance with utility owner safety requirements and environmental regulations. Quality Assurance Ensure projects comply with engineering specifications, client requirements, and company quality standards. Oversee implementation of quality control processes across multiple projects. Conduct periodic project quality reviews. Resolve quality concerns with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Engineering. Ensure proper documentation of inspections, testing, and completed work. Client Relations Build and maintain strong relationships with utility clients and project stakeholders. Participate in client meetings and project reviews. Resolve field-related client concerns in a professional and timely manner. Represent the company with professionalism and integrity. Support business development efforts by delivering exceptional project performance. Reporting & Communication Review daily reports submitted by Construction Superintendents. Provide operational updates to executive leadership. Track project progress, manpower, equipment utilization, and productivity metrics. Identify operational risks and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure accurate project documentation is maintained. Qualifications Required 10+ years of construction experience with significant experience in utility construction, structural remediation, heavy civil, or industrial construction. 5+ years of progressive leadership experience managing multiple construction projects and field supervisors. Demonstrated experience leading multiple Construction Superintendents. Strong knowledge of structural steel repairs, concrete restoration, foundation repair, excavation, demolition, and utility infrastructure. Experience managing geographically dispersed projects. Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, manpower planning, and resource allocation. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and utility industry safety requirements. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office. Valid driver's license. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. OSHA 30 certification. Experience with transmission and distribution utility construction. Experience managing self-perform construction crews. Experience with project management software and scheduling software. First Aid/CPR certification. Physical Requirements Ability to safely navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain, excavations, and utility rights-of-way. Frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms during site visits. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb transmission structures or elevated platforms when necessary for inspections. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain, and snow. Ability to wear required PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, high-visibility clothing, hearing protection, and fall protection equipment. Visual acuity sufficient to inspect construction work, identify quality issues, and recognize safety hazards. Ability to travel extensively (up to 75-90%) to project sites nationwide, including overnight travel. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as required to support project demands. Mental Requirements Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple Construction Superintendents and numerous concurrent projects. Excellent strategic planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands across multiple job sites. Strong decision-making abilities in dynamic, fast-paced construction environments. Ability to analyze project performance, identify risks, and implement corrective actions. Advanced problem-solving skills related to construction operations, staffing, scheduling, logistics, and field execution. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction specifications, contracts, and project schedules. Strong financial acumen with the ability to monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, budgets, and project profitability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with executives, clients, engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and field personnel. Ability to mentor, coach, and develop field leaders while maintaining accountability for performance. High level of situational awareness and sound judgment in safety-critical utility construction environments. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining composure under pressure and adapting to changing project conditions. Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills when addressing operational, personnel, or client-related issues.
