Assistant Dietary Manager

Location: Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center

We are seeking a dependable, organized, and compassionate Assistant Dietary Manager to join our skilled nursing facility team. The Assistant Dietary Manager will support the Dietary Manager with the daily operation of the dietary department, ensuring residents receive safe, nutritious, appealing, and timely meals while maintaining compliance with applicable federal and North Carolina requirements.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with seniors, has strong leadership and communication skills, and can effectively coordinate dietary staff and meal service in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

• Assist the Dietary Manager with the day-to-day operations of the dietary department.

• Help coordinate, schedule, and supervise dietary staff.

• Assist with meal preparation, tray service, dining room service, and meal delivery.

• Ensure meals and snacks are prepared and served according to resident diets, physician orders, and care plans.

• Monitor special diets, food preferences, allergies, and meal substitutions.

• Assist with maintaining accurate diet lists and meal service records.

• Promote proper food handling, sanitation, infection control, and kitchen safety practices.

• Monitor food temperatures and ensure proper storage, labeling, dating, and rotation of food products.

• Assist with inventory control, ordering, receiving, and proper storage of food and supplies.

• Help maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and dining environment.

• Provide training, direction, and support to dietary employees as assigned.

• Assist with addressing resident concerns regarding meals and dining services in a professional and compassionate manner.

• Work collaboratively with nursing, administration, the Registered Dietitian, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

• Assist with preparation for regulatory surveys and maintain department records and documentation.

• Follow facility policies and procedures as well as applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or facility administration.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Previous experience in healthcare food service, long-term care, skilled nursing, assisted living, or institutional food service preferred.

• Previous supervisory or leadership experience is a plus.

• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

• Ability to read and follow therapeutic diet orders and meal plans.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively with residents, families, coworkers, and interdisciplinary team members.

• Must be dependable, professional, and able to work as part of a team.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform the physical requirements associated with kitchen and meal-service duties.
