Serves as a Lab Technician performing independent acceptance and quality assurance testing of roadway construction project material for compliance with Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and American Society for Testing and Materials specifications.

Who are the customers? The traveling public and pedestrians.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Sampling and testing materials for conformance with contract requirements.
- Producing reports.
- Maintaining Lab Files in accordance with state and federal requirements to ensure contract compliance.
- Using and maintaining field lab testing equipment.
- Reporting pay quantities in Project Source Books. "Preference will be given to those with the required Technical Training Certification."
Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions: hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. Exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required. Willingness to accept change of geographical assignments; interaction with the public.
