Position Title: School Cafeteria Worker
Location: Ypsilanti Community Schools - Middle School
Employment Type: Full Time
Shift: Typical Morning Shift - Hours will vary, early mornings required. Candidates must have flexible availability.
Reports To: Cafeteria Manager/Supervisor

Job Summary:
The School Cafeteria Worker plays a vital role in providing nutritious meals to students in a safe and welcoming environment. This position involves food preparation, serving, and maintaining cleanliness in the cafeteria while adhering to health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation of meals, including washing, chopping, and cooking food items as directed.
• Serving Meals: Serve meals to students and staff, ensuring portion control and presentation.
• Dish Room: Washing dishes is a requirement and will involve working around industrial kitchen cleaning equipment and hot water.
• Customer Service: Interact positively with students and staff, answering questions and ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
• Cleanliness and Sanitation: Maintain a clean and organized work area, including washing dishes, cleaning countertops, and ensuring food safety standards are met.
• Inventory Management: Assist in inventory control, including receiving deliveries and monitoring stock levels.
• Compliance: Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling and sanitation practices.
• Team Collaboration: Work effectively with team members and assist in training new staff as needed.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in food service or cafeteria work is required.
• Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Physical ability to lift and carry items, stand for long periods, and perform manual tasks.
