• Days Possible: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Definition of Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care in a Family Birth Center setting. Responsibilities include effective communication with Physicians, Nurse Managers, and Co-workers regarding changes in patients' clinical conditions, diagnostic study results, and symptomatology. The nurse must respond quickly and accurately to changes in conditions or treatments, initiate a computerized Plan of Care upon admission, and perform general nursing duties across departments with adequate supervision.

Qualifications

Education

• Required: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Preferred: Evidence of continuing education relevant to skill level and practice area; BSN.

Licenses/Certifications/ Registrations

• Required: Current RN license in the State of Oregon; ACLS and NRP certifications within 6 months of hire; EFM training upon completion of Labor and Delivery training.
• Preferred: Additional certifications in areas of clinical specialty; CRASE training for assignments exceeding six months.

Experience

• Required: No previous experience required, though prior clinical experience is desired.
• Preferred: N/A

Physical Requirements

The role requires a range of physical and sensory functions to ensure effective performance:

• Adequate auditory ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including alarms and verbal communication.
• Clear and effective communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Visual acuity for monitoring patient conditions, reading documentation, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes.
• Tactile perception for assessing physical characteristics during patient care.
• Motor coordination for using medical equipment and performing fine motor tasks.
• Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl when assisting patients.
• Continuous walking and standing during shifts, with the capacity to lift up to 50 pounds independently.
• Frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients, with some lifting of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, utilizing safe lifting techniques and mechanical aids as needed.
• Ability to sit for extended periods when required.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily performed in an indoor healthcare environment, which may expose the employee to variable indoor temperatures, infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment. Compliance with safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is necessary. The work environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring quick responses to changing conditions and high-pressure situations, often accompanied by varying levels of noise from medical equipment and attendee activities.
