Jackson Memorial is an accredited, tertiary teaching hospital with 1,500 licensed beds, where nearly every medical specialty is provided by some of the world’s most skilled and highly regarded multidisciplinary team of health‑care professionals. Our Emergency Department provides care to over 100,000 adult ED visits per year. We just completed a $300 million construction project for a new 130,000 square‑foot emergency department expansion here at our flagship hospital. The new Emergency Department has approximately 115 beds and a 57‑bed observation unit on the 2nd floor. Summary The role of Attending Physician is to provide the medical management of the various patient care programs as assigned. Maintains effective lines of communication with the medical staff, nursing, social work and management, and coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of patient care. Responsibilities Performs medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for patients. Provides direct patient care daily and documents all necessary medical records, including Medicare/Medicaid and third‑party payer requirements. Works as scheduled and may rotate through the system. Prescribes pharmaceuticals and treatment regimens appropriate to assessed medical conditions, and refers patients to specialists and relevant patient care components. Directs and coordinates nursing and support staff care activities as required. Follows departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental and infection control standards. Attends medical staff meetings and participates with JMH committees and subcommittees. Participates in utilization review, quality assessment and improvement programs to enhance patient care. Provides medical consultative services to other medical personnel related to overall patient management and maintains current standards of acceptable medical practice. Participates in educational programs specific to patient care, involves patients and families when necessary in decision‑making about treatment, meets productivity standards, and attends meetings and conferences as directed. Engages in mandatory educational programs and in‑service/training courses to maintain competency. Maintains effective communication and working relationships with JHS medical personnel in the community. Collaborates with radiology, pathology, surgery, medical oncology and nursing in clinical patient management, performs all credentialed medical procedures according to standards, including time‑out protocols, and participates in developing, implementing and evaluating continuous quality improvement plans to identify opportunities. Adheres to the Standards of Excellence, respects rights, privacy and property of others, complies with all applicable JHS policies, laws, regulations and accreditation requirements (including HIPAA and clinical trials protocols). Maintains current knowledge of procedures, instruments and equipment, integrates skills into practice, performs related duties as assigned, and demonstrates service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise). Experience Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience. Education Doctorate degree in Medicine is required. Emergency Medicine Residency trained. ABEM/AOBEM required or eligible. Credentials Valid Florida Medical License. Active DEA registration and board certification required; other specialty certifications related to specialty are a plus. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable (ACLS/ATLS) life support certification for Healthcare Providers required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
