Operating under the direction of the Special Education Coordinator, this position provides specialized services to support students whose fine motor, sensory, self-care, and functional participation needs impact their ability to access and benefit from education. This position evaluates student needs, designs and implements Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), applies therapy techniques, and recommends equipment, accommodations, and environmental modifications. The Occupational Therapist collaborates with educators, families, and related service providers to promote student independence, growth, and success across school settings.

Job Responsibility Description:

Student Support and Service Delivery:

Conduct evaluations, observations, and screenings to determine student strengths and needs. Provide occupational therapy services aligned to each student's IEP to ensure access to and benefit from special education instruction. Provide occupational therapy interventions to address fine motor, sensory processing, self-help, mobility, posture, positioning, and age-appropriate play/recreation skills. Provide appropriate classroom and environmental modifications and accommodations and integrate appropriate equipment, and/or technology devices to facilitate functional and independent skills. Deliver therapy services in a variety of environments including classrooms, playgrounds, cafeterias, and therapy rooms. Monitor student growth, adapt services as needed, and motivate students to achieve IEP goals.

Documentation and Recordkeeping:

Write, implement, and monitor IEP goals, accommodations, and service minutes. Maintain clear and concise documentation of evaluations, diagnostic results, and student progress. Interpret medical records and apply relevant information to the educational environment. Complete Medicaid billing, service logs, and reporting using designated systems. Prepare and maintain manual and electronic records to align with district, state, and federal requirements.

Collaboration and Communication:

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and related service providers to support student outcomes. Provide consultation, resources, and training for staff and families on occupational therapy strategies, equipment, and environmental adaptations. Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary diagnostic and placement teams, and student/family conferences. Support in the monitoring and maintenance of all therapy equipment and supplies used within the department. Communicate student progress and needs clearly with staff and families, fostering active engagement.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program. Two years of experience working with children and adolescents preferred. School district experience preferred. Licensure to practice Occupational Therapy in Colorado by DORA. Certification by National Board Certificate of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License. Must be able to lift 35 pounds. Lift test required at time of hire. Quality Behavioral Solutions certification (QBS) preferred. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification preferred.

Salary & Benefits:

Occupational Therapist Base Pay Salary Schedule Range: $65,984 - $106,103 (Pending Board of Education Approval) based on one (1) FTE at one hundred eighty eight (188) days. Hiring Range for External Candidates: $65,984 - $90,887 (Pending Board of Education Approval) Occupational Therapist/Physical Therapist/School Mental Health Therapist/Social Worker are initially placed according to similar licensed experience. OT/PT/SMHT/SWs new to the District may be granted up to 15 years of experience, provided the experience occurred within the last 20 years. Future increases are calculated based on budget and market conditions. In order to be eligible to move through the salary schedule, employee must have worked the entire second semester.
