Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 13,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has 1 early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9th 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Directly responsible to the Director of Operations and/or his designee. Responsibilities include:

• Operating and maintaining hot water and steam boilers and related systems including but not limited to radiators, pumps, valves, steam traps, condensate pumps, pressure vessels, converters and safety valves.
• Troubleshooting, operating and maintaining associated equipment.
• Operating and maintaining pneumatic and electronic control systems.
• Installing, maintaining and repairing electrical devices and related electrical equipment.
• Operating and maintaining air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
• Performing other job duties as assigned by the director of Operations, supervisory personnel or his designee, such as snow plowing.

Specific Duties:

• Maintain all hand and electric operated tools.
• Make repairs to boilers and related equipment on a routine or emergency basis.
• Install drains and drain lines.
• Repair steam, hot water and cold water lines.
• Repair faucets, valves and traps.
• Calibrate thermostats and controls.
• Repair motors, controllers, and other electrical devices.
• Troubleshoot and make repairs to electrical circuits and equipment.
• Use test equipment including amprobe and multitester.
• Operate and maintain swimming pool and associated equipment.
• Repair and maintain kitchen and cafeteria equipment.
• Perform general maintenance duties as assigned.
• Drive snowplowing equipment and delivery vehicles.
• Respond to after hour emergencies.

Qualifications:

• In good health and able to perform all jobs assigned.
• Ability to climb and adjust to heights.
• Working knowledge of all tools and equipment to perform tasks listed above.
• Knowledge of electricity, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing and carpentry.
• Knowledge of National Electrical Code.
• Qualified to work in a school environment.
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
• Positive attitude and safety conscience.
• Proper hygiene and appearance.
• Willing to participate in continuing education programs.
• Three (3) years practical experience and/or training in low pressure boilers and associated equipment or a related field.
• Formal training from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience.
• Understanding of air conditioning and refrigeration and knowledge of support equipment.
• Ability to obtain a CDL license, if required.
• Valid drivers license.
• Ability to layout and plan work assigned.
• Work in a safe manner with tools.
• Ability to understand written and oral instructions.
• Ability to work harmoniously with others.

Work Environment: Busy office environment with multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.

Education: College degree preferred. Specialized trade certifications and licenses will be taken into consideration.

Safety: The employee is responsible for taking any and all steps necessary to protect yourself and others against occupational accidents, injuries, and illnesses.

Terms of Employment: Twelve months.
