Architectural Design Project Manager

$95000 $115000 base salary plus performance bonuses

DJCA Cornerstone is a planning design and owners representation firm in Pittsford NY. Since 2000 (when we started as HB Cornerstone) weve helped shape some of the regions best-known buildings including the Constellation Brands headquarters in the Aqueduct Building the Strong Museum of Play and St. James Hospital. Were currently working on the new $24 million culinary arts center at Finger Lakes Community College.

Were looking for a seasoned design professional to lead projects from the first sketch to the finished building. This is a design-first role. Its built for someone who still loves putting ideas on paper and in Revit and who also has the experience to carry those ideas through documents permitting and construction.

Because we work only for the owner the design stays at the center of every decision. Theres no contractor agenda and no handing off a set to someone else. The person in this seat shapes the design sees it built and is trusted to make the calls along the way.

Design leadership

• Lead design from programming and concept through schematic design and design development
• Develop space plans layout options and test fits for clients to react to and refine
• Produce presentation drawings 3D views and renderings that help clients see the space before its built
• Guide material finish and FF&E selections in step with the overall design intent
• Own the Revit model set the standards and keep drawings clean consistent and coordinated
• Develop and check details wall sections and assemblies including dimensions materials and how the parts fit together
• Mentor designers and drafters review their work and lead QA/QC of drawing sets before they go out

Construction documents and code

• Prepare and manage Revit construction documents schedules and specifications
• Lead building and municipal code research (NYS Building Code IBC and accessibility) and build it into the design early
• Coordinate drawings with structural MEP and civil consultants and resolve conflicts before they reach the field
• Work through local state and federal permitting and approvals

Project leadership

• Serve as the clients day-to-day design lead and main point of contact
• Run project meetings set agendas and keep action lists schedules and budgets moving
• Review submittals shop drawings RFIs work scopes and estimates and track them through close-out
• Manage defined scopes within larger projects such as FF&E and related contracts

In the field

• Field-verify measure and photograph existing conditions to start every project on solid ground
• Visit active sites to check quality materials code compliance and conformance with the drawings
• Keep observation logs and prepare weekly progress updates with photos for clients

Qualifications

• 10 years in architectural design including leading projects through construction
• Bachelors degree in architecture architectural engineering or design or equivalent experience
• A portfolio of built work that shows both design ability and strong construction documents
• Expert-level Revit plus AutoCAD Microsoft Office and MS Project
• Deep understanding of building systems construction methods detailing and building code
• Experience in healthcare higher education cultural hospitality or commercial work is a plus
• Strong client presence clear communication and sound judgment working independently
• Comfort on active job sites including walking uneven ground and occasional climbing
• Valid NYS drivers license and own transportation for local site visits

Preferred

• NY architecture license or progress toward licensure
• Experience with Bluebeam Enscape SketchUp Adobe Creative Suite or Procore
