Starting Date: Immediately Job Title Bus Driver (Full-time) Job Description The Ridgemont Local School District is accepting applications for a Bus Driver position for the 2026-2027 school year. The role includes morning and afternoon bus routes, possible field trips, and extracurricular events. Responsibilities Operate a school bus or van to provide authorized transportation services. Provide safe, efficient, and courteous transportation of students for morning and afternoon routes. Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip safety inspections; check safety equipment and first aid supplies. Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of the vehicle; clean up injuries involving chemicals, blood, or bodily fluids. Fuel the vehicle and monitor fluid levels; document fuel consumption and mileage. Report traffic citations, accidents, or property damage that occur on or off the job. Practice defensive driving and comply with all motor vehicle laws. Use proper protocol when operating communication equipment. Pick up and unload students at assigned stops; keep route sheets up to date. Communicate bus rules to students and monitor student conduct. Assist students with medical or health considerations; respond to student requests for assistance. Follow district field‑trip procedures and remain available to staff/students during trips. Participate in district bus safety program and conduct emergency evacuation drills. Maintain open and effective communications; prepare and maintain accurate records; submit required paperwork on time. Attend meetings and in‑service programs; keep current with technology and maintain applicable credentials. Follow district protocol and state law regarding bullying, discrimination, and suspected child abuse. Assist with unexpected or urgent situations and help implement workplace initiatives. Qualifications High school diploma. Successful completion of state pre‑service school bus driver training program. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with school bus and passenger endorsements. Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions. Ongoing participation in training necessary to maintain required license and endorsements. Complies with all pupil transportation operation and safety rules found in Ohio Administrative Code. Complies with drug‑free workplace rules, board policies, and administrative guidelines/procedures. Dependable and flexible; responds to interruptions and emerging priorities. Demonstrate maturity and interact comfortably/confidently with the public. Embodies high ethical standards and accepts personal responsibility for decisions. Maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Meet all mandated health screening requirements. Meet all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the district’s insurance carrier. Physical ability to safely lift and/or manage preschoolers and students with disabilities. Pass satisfactory pre‑employment and ongoing random drug/alcohol test results. Maintain cleaning duties: sweeping, mopping, etc. BCI and FBI fingerprint test eligibility. Employment Details Mornings and afternoons: 4 hours per day, 187 days per year. Paid hourly wages for travel and waiting time during extracurricular activities and field trips. Employee benefits offered. Reports to Transportation Supervisor.
