Registered Respiratory Therapist Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent respiratory therapy experience; 1–2 or more years is preferred
• Associate degree or respiratory therapy certificate
• Registered Respiratory Therapist credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
• Active Wisconsin Respiratory Therapist license
• Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications
• AHA PALS certification strongly preferred
• Strong communication skills and flexibility when adapting respiratory treatment plans
• Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated in an overnight hospital setting

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care for patients in a 10-bed emergency department, 6-bed obstetrics unit, and inpatient setting
• Manage a varied respiratory therapy caseload that may include BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, nebulizer treatments, and other respiratory interventions
• Evaluate patients, deliver treatments, monitor responses, and communicate changes to the care team
• Support respiratory care needs for up to 13 inpatients while serving as the sole overnight respiratory therapist
• Assist with initiating ventilatory support when clinically indicated and coordinate transfers for patients requiring ongoing mechanical ventilation
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other clinical professionals to develop and adjust treatment plans
• Float to other affiliated facilities when required
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
• Participate in weekend and holiday rotation as scheduled
