Maintenance WorkerReports To: Director of MaintenanceStatus: 12 months/30 Hours per weekSummary: The job Maintenance was established to provide a safe, attractive, clean and healthy environment for learning and work by performing inspections, maintenance and repairs for the students, staff and community in school buildings and grounds.Responsibilities & Duties:Perform general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas and as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance and in accordance with all applicable codes and regulationsEnsure that the work site and conditions are safePerform assignments relating to ensuring all schools and district sites are able to safely open and function when assigned. This includes working cooperatively with custodial employees during emergency operationsPerform regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediatelyRespond to emergency situations and perform necessary repairsUse the work order system, making sure that work orders have been written and approved before performing tasks, except in emergency situations.Keep a log of all maintenance functions and repairs performedRecommend repairs or procedures that are beyond the scope of responsibilities, skill, or experience, outlining the work needed and specifications required of an outside contractorEnsure that all applicable fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations and laws are observed and exceededMaintain an adequate supply of parts and supplies usually used in repairs, and request needed supplies through the established procedures of the districtOperate and maintain in a safe and operational condition all tools and equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilitiesRemove snow and ice by shoveling, plowing, and/or sanding walks, driveways, parking areas, and stepsReport immediately any damage or vandalism to facilities, or theft of equipment.Make recommendations for improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the maintenance operations of the districtAttend required meetings, including Right-To-Know and Safety Training, and serve, as appropriate, on staff committeesDisplay a cooperative and pleasant attitude at all times, particularly when in the presence of staff, students, and community visitorsNotify and assist the administration and appropriate emergency personnel with any emergency, and potentially dangerous or unusual situationsProtect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confinesMinimum Education, Experience and Requirements:High school diploma or equivalentKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to operate heavy power equipmentAbility to use, sharpen and make minor repairs to tools and equipmentAbility to follow oral and written instructionsWorking knowledge of ground preparation and maintenanceSkills to transport tractors and other maintenance equipmentWorking knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in electrical installation, maintenance and repair workAbility to locate and correct defects in electrical systems and equipmentSkills in the use of tools and equipment utilized in the repair of ventilation, air conditioning and environmental control equipmentWorking knowledge of road maintenance and construction proceduresSkills in the use and care of equipment and tools used in the painting tradeSome knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the painting tradeSkills in the performance of duties related to the plumbing tradeSome knowledge of methods of carpentry workAbility to follow oral instructions with little need for repetitionPhysical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and listen. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds or more at times.
