Description

We are seeking a DWDM / Optical Network Engineer to support the deployment, operation, maintenance, and expansion of large-scale optical transport networks. This role will focus on DWDM infrastructure, network troubleshooting, software upgrades, change implementation, and operational excellence initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with optical transport systems, strong troubleshooting abilities, and experience working within production network environments.

Responsibilities

• Configure, provision, and maintain DWDM and optical transport equipment.
• Execute software upgrades and network changes in accordance with established change management procedures.
• Troubleshoot optical network issues using monitoring tools, logs, alarms, and device-level diagnostics.
• Support the deployment and scaling of optical network infrastructure.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to plan and implement network changes.
• Ensure network reliability, performance, and adherence to operational standards.
• Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives that improve network efficiency and stability.

Required Qualifications

• Hands-on experience supporting DWDM and optical transport networks.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within optical networking environments.
• Understanding of optical network architectures, transport technologies, and network topologies.
• Experience implementing network changes and software upgrades in production environments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with optical platforms such as Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, Cisco Optical, ADVA, or similar technologies.
• Knowledge of ROADM, OTN, WDM, wavelength services, and optical transport concepts.
• Experience with automation and scripting technologies such as Python, Bash, Shell, Perl, or Ansible.
• Ability to read, understand, and modify existing scripts and automation workflows.
• Familiarity with network design, capacity planning, redundancy, and scalability concepts.
• Experience working in large-scale carrier, service provider, transport, backbone, or data center network environments.

Additional Qualifications

• Ability to troubleshoot and provision equipment through vendor management interfaces.
• Experience working with command-line tools and network management systems.
• Ability to discuss and implement automation solutions for network deployment, software upgrades, monitoring, and operational tasks.
• Comfortable reviewing and understanding existing code and automation frameworks.

Experience Level

Intermediate (3+ years of relevant optical networking experience preferred)

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Arlington, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
