ICU Registered Nurse

Must-Have: Proficient in managing DKA hyperglycemia, experience with vents and ABCDE bundle

Description: The ICU unit has a total of 20 beds. Staff may be deployed to care for boarded patients or may float to other units if put on standby. Response time for standby staff is 30 minutes. If not called in, standby counts as a cancellation toward policy. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 to 2. Charge nurses do not take patients and serve as a resource for the entire house. No nurse aides are available on the unit. The weekend requirement is 2 weekends per 4 weeks. Holidays are assigned per unit needs. Scrub color is navy. The charting system used is Cerner. Common diagnoses include sepsis, COPD, and GI bleeds. Nurses must read and interpret their own telemetry strips. There is a respiratory therapy team available 24/7. Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Nurses must have strong IV skills. Floor-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in the ICU. Floating is required to telemetry and medical-surgical floors. Travelers are first to float and will be expected to take a full patient load. Experience with medication management, including versed and norepinephrine, is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable with the responsibilities associated with floating to other floors.
