Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg - FT Nights

Job Overview Department: 35858 Atrium Health Union - Nursing: IU Surgical Care Unit: 4th Surgery Med Surg Unit (45 beds), specializes in comprehensive pre‑operative and post‑operative care for adults and geriatrics. Schedule: 3 x 12‑hour shifts per week, 7 pm–7 am. Hours: 36 hours per week. Pay range: $38.20 – $57.30 per hour. Major Responsibilities Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence‑based practices. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care, engaging patients and families throughout the continuum of care. Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the team to influence outcomes. Uphold and promote a culture of safety. Continuously evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed. May administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to protocols. Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution, fostering team collaboration and appropriate delegation. Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications. Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and practice ethical decision‑making, respecting interdisciplinary roles and contributing to integrated, unbiased patient care. Delegate to RN, LPN, and unlicensed assistive personnel appropriately. Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation. May be required to float to other units or facilities within the service area to meet care needs. Demonstrate age‑specific knowledge and skills as per departmental policies and procedures. Minimum Job Requirements Education: Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved program. Certification / Registration / License: Basic Life Support (BLS). Additional training may be required. Active RN license with privileges to practice in the state(s) of service. Experience: Typically requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking; time management, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment; proficiency with computer functions such as e‑mail, electronic records, and digital platforms. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist throughout the day; lift up to 35 lbs; push/pull with 30 lbs and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person; functional speech, vision, hearing, and fine‑hand manipulation for IV insertion and other procedures; maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines; perform physical safety interventions such as restraint and de‑escalation; may be exposed to chemical waste, blood, and communicable disease; protective clothing required; respond swiftly to changes in patient or unit conditions; physical abilities testing may be required; additional department‑specific physical requirements may apply.
