Position Description & Qualifications The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) program plays a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of the Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) program by ensuring that taxpayer-funded healthcare payments are accurate, appropriate, and compliant with federal requirements. Supporting CMS’s obligations under the Payment Integrity Information Act (PIIA), the program uses statistically valid sampling and independent medical review of claims to identify improper payments and measure program performance. The insights generated through CERT enable CMS to strengthen accountability, improve healthcare delivery practices, and drive corrective actions that protect both beneficiaries and public funds. Through this work, the CERT program helps uphold transparency, stewardship, and trust in one of the nation’s most critical healthcare systems. This position ensures the supervision of the Medical Records Department under the direction of the Medical Records Manager. In this role, you will: Provide oversight of the medical records workflow process including initial requests, logging and tracking, distribution, storage, destruction and/or forwarding of all medical records Monitor all stages in the production cycle Implement necessary interventions to address or prevent any disruptions to the medical record workflow Ensure timely processing of project deliverables related to medical records Coordinate the assignment of medical records for claim review and Internal Quality Control (IQC) functions Provide oversight of the record imaging system Resolve system problems and develop system enhancements in coordination with the programmer analyst, program director and network administrator Produce and submit required reports according to established content and time guidelines Support the Medical Records Manager in ensuring departmental compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) requirements Support the Medical Records Manager in determining and coordinating the education and training for the department staff Effectively communicate with the customer and employees Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Medical Records Manager To be successful in this role, you must have: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in business, management or computer science, prefer certification as RHIA or ART May substitute four (4) years of relevant work experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree 2 years experience supervising routine operations preferably, in a large medical records department desired Demonstrates knowledge of medical record processing and procedures Must be able to lift and move boxes repetitively weighing up to 40 pounds Demonstrates experience with personal computer systems including MS Word, MS Excel Demonstrates ability to work with others in a team environment; Demonstrates knowledge of organizing, scanning and destroying medical records, either from existing storage facilities or as they come into the work environment via the mail process Pay Transparency Our Total Rewards package includes competitive pay, performance-based incentives, and benefits that promote well-being and work-life balance—so you can thrive both professionally and personally. Salary range: The range for this position can be found at the top of this posting. This range is provided as a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the scope of the role, relevant experience, job‑related knowledge, education and training, key skills, and geographic market considerations. For roles available in multiple states, the range may vary to reflect differences in local labor markets. In addition to base salary, eligible positions may include other forms of compensation such as annual bonuses or long‑term incentive opportunities.
