Our people share a passion to help meet the world’s current and increasing energy needs, while providing communities and countries the opportunity for economic growth due to the availability of reliable, affordable electric power.A day in the life of an AES Clean Energy Reliability Engineer will include, but is not limited to:Analyzing reliability and availability of solar plus storage hardware and componentsPerforming root cause analysis for equipment failures and remediate with external parties as neededLeading and facilitating major repairs to operational sitesEvaluating operational sites for repowering and retrofit opportunities including cost benefit analysisImplementing new practices to maximize uptime and efficiencyThe Reliability Engineer supports a larger operations team and serves as the subject matter expert for technical and engineering matters related to the reliable and available operation of photovoltaic plants and grid-scale battery storage systems. Excellent communication, task management and planning skills needed, in addition to technical breadth.The role will focus on the mechanical and electrical operation of photovoltaics, batteries, and related equipment/components. The role will require the review of information related to all practical elements of photovoltaic and battery system design. The successful applicant, while not an expert, will be comfortable with high-level review of all elements of practical system design.The position is located in Louisville, CO or Salt Lake City, UT and may include up to 10-15% travel to project locations and partner offices.Key ResponsibilitiesOperationsEstablish best practices for hardware configuration and maintenance activities to maximize reliability and availabilityTroubleshoot systems in operation to identify root cause of performance problemsPerform life cycle cost modeling of project design to inform equipment and component selectionFacilitate continuous improvement to maintenance practices with internal operations personnel and 3rd Party vendorsPerform Job Safety Assessments and Safety Walks to identify job-site hazardsCollaborationCollaborate with Operations and Engineering teams to troubleshoot existing projects and develop repair and remediation plans“Close the loop” between Operations and new project development by recording and communicating issues that can be mitigated through better design and equipment selectionDesign solutions for modifications to systems, and coordinate between various AES subcontractors and vendors where neededUtilize technology such as drones, LiDAR, thermal imaging and 3D modeling to improve reliabilityGrowth and LeadershipParticipate in AES DE’s growth planning process by contributing to process improvement task forces and other strategic planning activitiesImprove and develop processes for the execution of safe, quality and high-reliability projectsEducate team on changing trends in technology, best practices and safetySkills and QualificationsPrimary QualificationsUndergraduate degree in Engineering or equivalent technical field2+ years professional experience in engineering with a focus on measuring and maintaining equipment reliabilityExperience with root cause and failure modes analysis methodsProficiency with reading and understanding equipment/facility schematicsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsWell versed in the use of the Microsoft Office software suiteExperience in utilizing results of data analytics and database toolsHigh degree of commitment to a quality safety culture and an incident-free work environmentWillingness to travel within the U.S. to support company’s portfolio of PV solar/BESS assetsPersonal values consistent with those of the AES Corporation; Safety, Integrity, Excellence, Agility and Fun“Plus” QualificationsPE qualifications, or on track to become qualifiedMaster’s degree in EngineeringExperience with PV and Battery Energy Storage System design and interconnectionExperience with utility interconnection practicesProficiency with CAD toolsSpanish language skillsAES is an Equal Opportunity Employer who is committed to building strength and delivering long-term sustainability through diversity and inclusion. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave).
