Position Overview

The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws, specimen collection, and supporting accurate laboratory testing in a fast-paced outpatient setting. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to create a calm and positive patient experience.

Responsibilities
• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws with accuracy and professionalism
• Properly label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing
• Collect additional specimens, including urine and swabs as needed
• Follow infection control, safety, and specimen handling protocols
• Verify patient identity and explain procedures clearly to patients
• Monitor patients during and after collection and respond appropriately to adverse reactions
• Document specimen collection and patient information in the EHR system
• Process lab requisitions and ensure specimens match physician orders
• Communicate with providers and clinical staff regarding specimen issues or abnormal results
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked work area
• Support clinic operations and patient flow as needed

Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy training and hands-on experience required
• Phlebotomy certification preferred
• BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire

Preferred Experience
• 1+ year of phlebotomy experience in an outpatient or clinic setting
• Experience working with internal medicine or infectious disease patients preferred
• Strong understanding of specimen handling and laboratory procedures

Skills
• Strong venipuncture and specimen collection skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong patient communication and customer service abilities
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced clinical environment
• Familiarity with EHR systems and basic computer skills
