Operating Engineer

What This Job Involves The Operating Engineer will focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all systems. Candidates should demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area—Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations—and be multi‑skilled in additional areas to complete daily and weekly work assignments. Essential Functions Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment at a client’s site. Ensure work performed in client space causes minimal disruption and is followed by adequate clean‑up. Perform maintenance and monitoring on Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards. Take responsibility for facility services, preventive maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency. Maintain an adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies and develop sources for stock materials. Record readings and adjust equipment to ensure proper operation. Clean, inspect, calibrate, and replace parts of HVAC systems and associated equipment to maintain optimum performance. Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials, maintaining a clean and safe workplace. Review monthly client service request summaries to identify and correct recurrent operational problems. Evaluate vendors and suppliers regularly for quality and competitive pricing. Prepare and submit purchase order requests. Verify delivery accuracy for quantity, pricing, and description. Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory. Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors. Lead and/or assist with event setup/teardown activities, including electrical, audio‑visual, security coordination, or other tasks as needed. Perform any other duties assigned (subject to company policy). Requirements/Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Completion of a vocational/trade program preferred. Minimum 2 years of comparable work experience. Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent. Certification as a Universal Technician for CFC’s (or to be obtained within 90 days of employment). Ability to analyze system operations, determine causes of malfunctions, and take corrective action. Working knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel. Strong communication skills. Available for call‑in work. Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, sit, kneel, squat, reach, and lay as required to access equipment components for extended periods.
