Benefits Specialist The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan. Pay range: $56,208.17-$64,565.51 based on experience, education, and/or licensure. Essential Functions Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information. Assists with new‑hire orientations. Performs quality checks of benefits‑related data. Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes. Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility. Enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes. Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, and other general inquiries. Processes and administers all leave‑of‑absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA & BWC. Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities. Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch‑up contribution enrollment. Assists with the open enrollment process. Administers the tuition reimbursement & CEU programs. Administers the vehicle lease program. Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges. Monthly reconciliation of benefit invoices. Travel within designated service area. Performs other duties as assigned. Education / Licensure High school degree or GED equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in human resources related fields is required. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification credential preferred. Experience 2-3 years' experience in benefits administration required. 1-2 years experience administering FMLA and other leave programs required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Skills / Abilities Extensive knowledge of employee benefits leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, required. Intermediate level Excel skills. Excellent organizational skills. A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle required. Appropriate level of auto insurance coverage required. Ability to manage deadlines within a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment. Ability to operate in an Internet‑based, automated office environment. Ability to maintain high‑speed internet connection. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer required. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times required.
