Electrician
FTAI Aviation
CFM56-Based Aeroderivative Packages Electrical Engineer
FTAI owns and maintains commercial jet engines with a focus on CFM56 and V2500 engines. FTAI's propriety portfolio of products, including the Module Factory and a joint venture to manufacture engine PMA, enables it to provide cost savings and flexibility to our airline, lessor, and maintenance, repair, and operations customer base. Additionally, FTAI owns and leases jet aircraft which often facilitates the acquisition of engines at attractive prices. FTAI invests in aviation assets and aerospace products that generate strong and stable cash flows with the potential for earnings growth and asset appreciation.
FTAI operates globally and has offices in New York, Miami, Montral, Singapore, Dubai, United Kingdom and Ireland.
FTAI Power is a new and rapidly growing platform within FTAI Aviation dedicated to converting CFM56 jet engines into 25-megawatt aeroderivative gas turbines engineered to deliver reliable, flexible, and rapidly deployable power to data centers and AI hyperscalers worldwide.
Launched in December 2025, FTAI Power was built in direct response to the unprecedented surge in electricity demand driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure. As AI hyperscalers and cloud operators face multi-year backlogs to secure traditional grid connections, FTAI Power offers an immediately scalable alternative: a modular, 25-MW turbine that can be deployed quickly, operated flexibly, and maintained using the same world-class MRO infrastructure FTAI has built over decades in commercial aviation.
The CFM56 with over 34,000 engines delivered globally is the ideal candidate for aeroderivative conversion. FTAI Power remanufactures the proven CFM56 core and adapts it with aeroderivative components using a proprietary conversion architecture developed over more than a year of engineering. The result is a compact, high-reliability gas turbine that gives grid operators and data center owners finer output control than large-frame alternatives, with a conversion cycle of just 30 to 45 days per unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute the electrical build-out of FTAI Power's CFM56-based aeroderivative packages from the ground up: cabling, terminations, conduit installation, control panel wiring, instrumentation, and system integration in the production facility.
- Commission completed FTAI Power units at customer sites: perform pre-energization checks, loop verification, functional testing, generator synchronization, load bank testing, and paralleling operations through to handover.
- Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all electrical systems on aeroderivative gas turbine packages including starter/ignition systems, fuel control wiring, generator excitation and AVR systems, load management panels, and protective relay and trip circuits.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and scheduled outage work on turbine package electrical systems per OEM manuals, FTAI Power procedures, and applicable standards, minimizing unit downtime for power generation customers.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults on turbine control systems: GE Mark V/VI/ VIe, Woodward 505/5009, ABB, Bently Nevada vibration monitoring, or equivalent platforms used on FTAI Power and legacy aero derivative packages.
- Read, interpret, and execute from complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, loop drawings, P&IDs, and package interconnect drawings specific to aeroderivative power generation configurations.
- Install and terminate high- and low-voltage cabling, conduit systems, cable trays, junction boxes, and instrumentation in compliance with NEC, API, IEC, and site electrical standards applicable to power generation facilities and data center campuses.
- Test electrical systems using calibrated equipment: multimeters, megohmmeters, oscilloscopes, loop calibrators, and power quality analyzers; perform insulation resistance, continuity, Hi-Pot testing, and ground fault isolation.
- Maintain, calibrate, and replace sensors, transmitters, thermocouples, RTDs, proximity probes, and instrumentation supporting turbine health monitoring and power output performance systems.
- Support electrical systems for auxiliary package components: lube oil pumps, fuel conditioning skids, cooling systems, solenoid and motor-operated valves (MOVs), and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Maintain thorough work orders, test records, commissioning reports, and as-built redline drawings in compliance with FTAI Power's QMS and customer documentation requirements.
- Strictly follow LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), NFPA 70E arc flash, confined space entry, and all applicable site safety protocols across production, commissioning, and field service environments.
- Interface with FTAI Power engineers, OEM technical representatives, and customer operations teams during commissioning, planned maintenance, and unplanned outage events at power generation sites.
- Mentor junior electricians and technicians within the FTAI Power manufacturing and field services organization as the program scales.
Qualifications
- Journeyman Electrician license (state-recognized) required; Master Electrician license a significant advantage.
- Minimum 7 years of electrical maintenance and troubleshooting experience, with at least 4 years of direct, hands-on work on aeroderivative gas turbine packages in a power generation, industrial, or oil & gas environment.
- Experience on one or more major aero derivative platforms: GE LM2500, LM6000, or LM9000; Rolls-Royce RB211/Avon; Pratt & Whitney FT4/FT8; Solar Turbines Titan, Centaur, or Mars series. CFM56 engine familiarity highly valued given FTAI Power's platform.
- Ground-up package electrical build and commissioning experience: candidates who have helped bring new aeroderivative turbine packages online from initial wiring through full load testing are strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with turbine control and protection systems: GE Mark V/VI/ VIe, Woodward 505/5009, Bently Nevada API 670 systems, or equivalent.
- Thorough working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, API RP 505, and applicable IEC/IEEE standards for power generation electrical systems.
- Experience with Class I Division 1/2 (NEC Article 500) and/or ATEX/IECEx hazardous area electrical systems.
- Proficiency with precision electrical test and calibration instruments; ability to independently execute full commissioning sequences including loop checks, functional tests, insulation tests, and load testing.
- Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, or PLC systems as they interface with turbine control and power plant monitoring infrastructure.
- Experience at power generation facilities, data center power islands, pipeline compression stations, LNG facilities, or offshore platforms a strong plus.
- Ability to obtain required site credentials: BOSIET/HUET (offshore), TWIC, and applicable safety certifications for domestic and international deployments.
- Proficient in reading and working from engineering drawings, electrical schematics, OEM turbine documentation, and package conversion specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting ability, sound independent judgment, and clear communication skills; able to operate effectively in fast-paced, high-stakes power generation environments.
Preferred Certifications
- NFPA 70E Arc Flash Safety Certification
- GE Turbine Controls (Mark V / VI / VIe ) OEM or factory training
- Woodward Governor / Control Systems 505 / 5009 training
- Bently Nevada Machinery Protection Systems API 670
- CompEx or ATEX Hazardous Area Certification (for international deployments)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 General Industry
- A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) Certificate meaningful given FTAI's CFM56 aviation maintenance heritage
