RAP Program Liaison (for Regional Apprenticeship Pathways "RAP")
The RAP Program Liaison supports the RAP teacher in delivering engaging, hands-on lessons focused on workplace behavior, safety, and all phases of the construction process, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler fitting, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, masonry, skilled trades math, labor, career exploration, and more. Responsibilities include general shop management, maintaining a safe and organized worksite, supervising students, managing inventory, and reinforcing skills and concepts in small groups and/or one-on-one. The RAP Program Liaison promotes a safe, professional learning environment through strong classroom and shop management strategies and participates in professional development and occasional evening events to support student achievement.
This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
- Consistently prepare tools and materials specific to each lesson
- Monitor student activities to maintain a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Demonstrate effective construction skill teaching practices, providing clear and intentionally focused instruction using state and industry standards, subject matter content, and district curriculum.
- Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs to promote personal skill development and achievement.
- Provide an exceptional educational experience to all students; communicate enthusiasm for learning and the ability to proactively refocus or de-escalate students.
- Apply current construction industry standards and teaching strategies to ensure successful learning and application of hands-on skills.
- Utilize rubrics to assess and monitor student progress and skill development, providing written feedback and observations to teachers and administration.
- Communicate and collaborate with RAP staff and partners to improve the quality of student outcomes, foster student success and achievement, and program success.
- Direct volunteers and/or student aids to provide a safe and effective pre-apprenticeship school worksite that addresses the needs of individual students.
- Utilize district-adopted RAP curriculum to guide instruction
- Uphold, foster, and maintain established standards of behavior required to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment for learning.
- Actively seek consultation and advice from the RAP staff about current industry's best practices, safety protocols, equipment use, and skills necessary for working at a state-recognized pre-apprenticeship school.
- Report incidents (child abuse, fights, substance abuse, etc.) to maintain the personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code and district and school policies
- Organize, manage, and maintain the instructional facility, equipment, and resources.
- Maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site and regular work hours.
- Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred
- Comply with all district policies and procedures
- Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Journeyman License, and/or Post-secondary Degree, and/or Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
- Valid Washington State Driver's License
- OSHA 30 preferred
- Forklift certification preferred
- 1st Aid & Adult/Child CPR training (completed within 30 days from the date of hire and to be maintained for the duration of this job)
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Two years of experience in the construction trades or comparable industry.
- Working knowledge of construction concepts, tools, equipment, and materials.
- Experience managing and maintaining inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies
- Ability to work well with diverse groups of people in a high school learning environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of an instructional team delivering instruction in small group settings.
- Experience in diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives in industry and classroom settings.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to correctly and competently utilize a variety of construction tools and equipment.
- Ability to hold students accountable for classroom expectations using positive engagement strategies.
- Ability to effectively meet the developmental needs of students
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
- Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
- I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
- Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date
- Ability to consistently perform a variety of specialized tasks including but not limited to: maintaining accurate records, maintaining professional relationships with students and staff, following through on tasks assigned, arriving on time, self-starter, committed to ongoing professional development, meeting schedules and deadlines, establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships including proactive communication with administrators, students, parents, community partners, and school personnel.
Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area, required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements, experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines, and must be able to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry people and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges. Construction PPE is provided by RAP and required to be worn.
Evaluation:
The Director of Regional Apprenticeship Pathways shall periodically evaluate this position pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include evaluating the employee's performance of the above essential job functions and qualifications.
