Overview Duties: This position is for a Cemetery Administration Specialist located at National Cemeteries operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), National Cemetery Administration (NCA). The incumbent will monitor committal services for compliance with NCA standards pertaining to the mission to "honor Veterans and their families with final resting places in National Shrines and with lasting tributes that commemorate their service and sacrifice to our Nation." The incumbent represents the cemetery and the entire NCA at committal services and at outreach events; answering questions and providing information to Veterans regarding memorial benefits. The representative is also versed in providing information to eligible family members of Veterans regarding any memorial benefits they may be eligible to receive. The incumbent of this position performs a wide variety of administrative duties in support of cemetery operations. The focus is on working with the Administrative Officer and/or Cemetery Administrator in planning and administering cemetery operations. The position is responsible for the investigation and determination of eligibility for interment activities of the National Cemetery. The incumbent performs clerical office automation and typing duties in support of administration and interment activities and is responsible for ensuring that required reports are completed accurately and timely. Public outreach is performed as needed. Responsibilities Assist in planning and administering cemetery operations in coordination with the Administrative Officer and/or Cemetery Administrator. Investigate and determine eligibility for interment activities within the National Cemetery. Perform clerical office automation and typing duties; ensure accurate and timely completion of required reports. Represent the cemetery and the National Cemetery Administration at committal services and outreach events; answer questions and provide information on memorial benefits to Veterans and eligible family members. Perform duties in support of outreach and public information activities as needed. Work schedule typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; may include occasional weekends. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all specialized experience and time-in-grade requirements within 45 days of the closing date of this announcement (04/24/2026). Time-In-Grade Requirements : For current Federal employees, time-in-grade requirements apply as specified (e.g., GS-07 requires 52 weeks at the GS-05 level). An SF-50 demonstrating time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with the application materials. Time-in-Grade continues to apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement and to Veterans' Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointments. Must have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license. To Qualify for the GS-07 Grade Level Experience: At least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-05) or equivalent, including duties such as gathering data, coordinating meetings, maintaining an efficient filing system, using computer software to generate reports, meeting internal and external customer needs, and handling conflicts and problems constructively. Education: Successful completion of 1 full year of graduate-level education from an accredited college or university, or a Bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). Combination: A combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education may be used to qualify. Competencies Communication Critical Thinking Customer Service Self-Management Writing Experience may include paid or unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs. Volunteer work can provide valuable training and experience. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Notes : A full year of work is considered 35-40 hours per week. Part-time experience will be credited proportionally. Applicants should clearly indicate duties and hours worked for part-time positions. Physical Requirements : Work is primarily sedentary and performed in an office environment. Other Information Required: A 1-year probationary period will be administered upon accepting this position. Evaluation will consider performance, agency needs, potential to advance organizational goals, and efficiency of the Federal service.
