Caregiver / Direct Support Professional

Support for a Young Woman with Disabilities

Location: Rebecca’s Homestead, Wantage, NJ
Pay: $23.00 per hour
Schedule: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays

• 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

• 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

About the Position

We are looking for a compassionate, dependable, and positive caregiver to support an outgoing young woman who lives independently with her cat in her own apartment at Rebecca’s Homestead, a nonprofit farm that provides supportive housing for adults with disabilities.

She is nonverbal and communicates effectively using a communication device and writing. Strong spoken and written English skills are essential.

The ideal candidate will enjoy building a meaningful relationship with the person they support while helping her maintain her independence, participate in her community, and live the life she chooses.

Responsibilities

The caregiver will provide respectful, person-centered support, including:

• Assisting with personal care, including dressing, toileting, bathing, and hygiene

• Providing assistance with meals and feeding as needed

• Supporting safe transfers and mobility

• Driving her in her wheelchair-accessible minivan to appointments and community activities

• Supporting participation in painting classes, shopping, outings, and other community activities

• Encouraging independence and supporting her personal choices

• Providing light housekeeping related to her care and living environment

• Building a positive and respectful relationship based on trust, communication, and mutual respect

About the Person You’ll Support

She is an active and outgoing young woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoys meeting new people, painting, participating in community activities, and getting out and about.

We are looking for someone who is patient, reliable, positive, and comfortable supporting someone to be an active and valued member of her community.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who understands that this role is about supporting a person—not simply providing care. The goal is to help her have greater independence, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to pursue the activities and experiences that are important to her.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

• Ability to safely operate a wheelchair-accessible van

• Reliable transportation to and from work

• Ability to complete a background check and drug screening

• Strong spoken and written English communication skills

• Dependable, patient, and respectful

• Comfortable assisting with personal care and mobility

• Experience supporting people with disabilities is preferred, but not required . We are willing to train the right person.

Compensation

$23.00 per hour
