Embedded Firmware Test Engineer

We are seeking an Embedded Firmware Test Engineer to support the validation and quality assurance of advanced gas metering products. This role will focus on both black-box and white-box firmware testing, root cause analysis of embedded systems issues, and driving the transition from manual test processes to automated test frameworks. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with embedded C/C++ environments, firmware validation, and test automation in a Linux-based development environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute manual black-box and white-box testing of embedded firmware for gas metering products.
• Analyze and interpret embedded C/C++ source code to validate functionality and troubleshoot firmware behavior.
• Monitor system signals, communication interfaces, and device performance to identify, isolate, and document defects.
• Conduct root cause analysis and collaborate with firmware and hardware engineering teams to resolve issues.
• Develop and implement automated test solutions to improve test coverage, efficiency, and repeatability.
• Create and maintain Python scripts and automated test frameworks for firmware validation.
• Validate embedded software running on microcontroller-based systems.
• Test and troubleshoot communication protocols, including I2C, to ensure reliable sensor and device interactions.
• Utilize laboratory test equipment to perform functional, integration, and regression testing.
• Document test procedures, test results, and defect reports.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Associate's degree with relevant programming certifications and equivalent experience will also be considered.
• Experience testing embedded systems and firmware.
• Proficiency in Embedded C/C++.
• Strong understanding of black-box and white-box testing methodologies.
• Experience working in Linux-based environments.
• Knowledge of microcontrollers and embedded hardware architectures.
• Experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or similar diagnostic tools.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing or testing firmware on STMicroelectronics (STM32) microcontrollers.
• Experience with I2C communication protocols and sensor integration.
• Proficiency with Python scripting for test automation and white-box testing.
• Experience designing automated test frameworks and transitioning manual test processes to automated solutions.
• Familiarity with embedded software development lifecycle and firmware validation best practices.

Job Type & Location: This is a Permanent position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
