Job Purpose and Objectives:

Responsible for the construction and repair of bridges, box culverts, and low-water crossings for Montgomery County.

Position Requirements:

1. High school diploma or other equivalent

2. One year of related experience and/or training

3. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Certifications / Licenses:

1. Class C Driver's License

2. Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License or a Class A Commercial Driver's License with a Tanker Endorsement within one year of hire

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

2. Knowledge of current road construction and maintenance practices

Job Competencies: Essential Functions include the following. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. 1. Cleans road or bridge surfaces and applies and rakes patching material
2. Helps build, bolt and nail, align and set up forms for bridges and culverts
3. Loads and unloads equipment and material from trucks
4. Assists in concrete pouring and finishing
5. Mixes bagged concrete
6. Assists in the repair, maintenance, and erection of signs, guardrails, box culverts, and bridges
7. Uses cutting torches and welders
8. Fastens attachments to equipment
9. Assists in painting bridges and guardrails
10. Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment
11. Uses hand tools such as a hammer, shovel, rake, chainsaw or other tools used to maintain right-of-way and bridges
12. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
13. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
14. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
15. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
16. Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic

Salary Description


$18.74-$26.97 DOE
