Job Description Business Title: Senior Environmental Technical Claims Specialist Employment Type: Full‑Time FLSA Status: Exempt Location: In‑Office (offices in Albany, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, Richmond (VA), Rockwood (PA), Springfield (MO); also open to working from home within continental United States) Summary: We are looking for a highly capable Senior Environmental Technical Claims Specialist to join our team and work from one of the designated company offices. This individual will report to a manager in New York City and is focused on adjudicating first‑ and third‑party commercial environmental claims, predominantly complex storage‑tank claims, and delivering superb results for our clients. Essential Responsibilities Adjudicate commercial environmental claims at the highest authority limits on assignments reflecting the highest degree of technical complexity, potentially with major impact on departmental results. Conduct detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation to find solutions to numerous and undefined issues. Report to senior management and underwriters on claims trends and developments. Analyze claims forms, policies, endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine whether the loss falls within policy coverage. Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing all involved parties. Manage claims in litigation. Maintain a diary and complete tasks in a timely manner to ensure cases move toward optimal financial outcomes and resolution. Set claim reserves appropriately, considering how different policy wordings impact the reserving process. Identify loss drivers and claims trends to reduce frequency and severity through data analysis and improved claim management. Assign and coordinate the assignment of expertise resources to assist in case resolution. Prepare file‑documentation reports. Apply creative solutions resulting in the best financial outcome. Negotiate in a timely and effective manner to provide cost‑effective solutions for the company and its customers within own limits using a range of negotiation styles. Process mail and prioritize workload. Complete telephone calls and written correspondence to/from various parties (insured, claimant, etc.). Maintain an appreciation and passion for strong claim management. Qualifications / Experience Required A deep knowledge of commercial environmental claims typically acquired through experience. A minimum of seven years of adjudicating commercial environmental claims with exposure of $100,000 or more. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required. Two or more insurance designations or four additional years of related experience may substitute a degree. Licensed Claims Examiner (state‑based) or ability to obtain a license within 120 days in each required jurisdiction. Good business acumen and understanding of how an insurance company operates and generates profit. Excellent communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships. Excellent evaluation and strategic skills required. Strong claim‑negotiation skills and proactive, pragmatic approach to negotiation. Strong customer focus. Effective time‑management skills and ability to prioritize workload while handling multiple tasks and deadlines. Ability to articulate the financial value of work at multiple stakeholder levels, including CEO. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on matters of significant importance. Demonstrates inner strength and commitment to doing the right thing daily. Strong focus on execution, consistently delivering expected results to stakeholders. Ability to find success through adversity, being solution‑focused, thinking with a global mindset, and client focus. Successful traits such as flexibility, resourcefulness, and adaptability to fast‑paced, constantly evolving environments. Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with clients, business partners, and peers with timely and meaningful information exchange. Curiosity and willingness to explore all options beyond conventional thinking. Proficient in MS Office Suite and other business‑related software. Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in reading and writing English. Demonstrated desire for continued professional development through continuing education and self‑development opportunities. Preferred Qualifications J.D. preferred. Benefits and Compensation Base salary ranges are provided for specific geographic areas and may differ based on local cost of labor. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance and a generous benefits package. Colorado (outside Denver metro), Delaware, Illinois (outside Chicago metro), Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts (outside Boston metro), Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia – Pay Ranges: $99,200 – $118,100 Boston metro area, California (outside Los Angeles & San Francisco metro), Connecticut, Chicago metro area, Denver metro area, New Jersey (outside New York City metro), New York State (outside New York City metro), Washington, D.C. metro area, and Washington State – Pay Ranges: $109,200 – $129,900 New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco metro areas – Pay Ranges: $119,100 – $141,800 Equal Opportunity Employer We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
