Respiratory Therapist PRN / All Locations

Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem‑patient care situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management and significant independent decision‑making and self‑direction. In addition, the RT II provides patient, family/support system education, coordinates activities, supports staff development, and participates in the education of new employees and peers. The RT II provides patient care with an awareness of population‑specific needs, addressing biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Provides customer service, completing patient care, documentation and education. Team approach to service, promoting a team spirit and positive work environment. Provides a supportive environment for students and staff. Administers quality patient care, performing patient assessment and therapy assessment. Collaborates with health‑care team members in planning patient care. Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. Performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management (intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care). Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students, and peers. Assists in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Provides a safe and quality environment, promoting current and accurate electronic orders, charting and charging. Promotes high level of patient safety (medication safety, NPSG, etc.) and performance‑improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Promotes evidence‑based practice and reviews revised and new DPPs. Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred). Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications BLS – Basic Life Support ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support BLS‑I – Basic Life Support Instructor ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support ACLS‑I – ACLS Instructor PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support ARC‑PALS – American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support PALS‑I – PALS Instructor NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program ARC‑NALS – American Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support NRP‑I – NRP Instructor NRP‑P – NRP Provisional (180 days) NBRC‑RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist RCP – Respiratory Care Professional Required Minimum Experience 0‑2 years of clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Required Minimum Skills Excellent communication and customer‑relation skills. Strong critical‑thinking ability. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals. Computer skills, including familiarity with databases.
