What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) , you will play a critical role in helping individuals with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral health challenges achieve greater independence, personal growth, and community participation.

Direct Support & Daily Living Assistance

• Assist individuals with personal care, hygiene, toileting, dressing, meal assistance, housekeeping, and daily routines
• Support individuals in maximizing independence, self-confidence, and quality of life
• Encourage positive behaviors, self-advocacy, hope, and personal choice
• Provide supervision, guidance, and skill-building support
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment

Individualized Support & Skill Development

• Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs), Individual Habilitation Plans (IHPs), and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
• Support individuals in achieving personal goals and desired outcomes
• Teach daily living, social, vocational, and community-based skills
• Foster meaningful relationships and community involvement
• Facilitate structured activities that promote independence, self-esteem, and personal growth

Creative Arts & Community Engagement

• Support participation in recreational, artistic, and community-based activities
• Encourage creative expression through visual and performing arts opportunities
• Assist with activities such as drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, and other creative experiences
• Participate in community outings, special events, and recreational programming

Health, Safety & Medication Administration

• Administer medications according to agency policies and regulatory requirements
• Monitor and report changes in health, behavior, and well-being
• Ensure the safety and welfare of individuals served
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and crisis situations
• Report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or mistreatment in accordance with agency procedures

Transportation & Community Supports

• Safely transport individuals to appointments, activities, and community events
• Operate agency or personal vehicles in compliance with organizational policies
• Maintain required transportation documentation and records

Documentation & Team Collaboration

• Complete accurate and timely documentation, including:
  • Daily service notes
  • Goal and outcome tracking
  • Medication administration records
  • Incident reports
  • Behavior support documentation
  • Health monitoring logs
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) entries
• Maintain confidentiality of all consumer and agency information
• Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development sessions
• Collaborate with supervisors, clinicians, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality services
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned

QualificationsRequired

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Minimum of six months to one year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or in a human services setting
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
• Ability to meet agency driving requirements
• CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within the required timeframe
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, email, electronic documentation systems, and timekeeping software

Preferred

• Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Fine Arts, or a related field
• Experience facilitating visual arts, performing arts, recreational programming, or community-based activities
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and person-centered support practices

Schedule

• [Full-Time / Part-Time / PRN]
• Flexible scheduling based on program needs
• Evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call hours may be required
• Opportunities available across multiple shifts and locations

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, transfer, and assist with up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the workday
• Ability to participate in community outings and recreational activities
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
