# Writer-Editor.Smithsonian InstitutionFull TimemidWashington, District of Columbia, USPosted Yesterday## Job Description### DutiesAs a Writer-Editor, you formulate and execute communications strategies that promote SI’s vision as a global leader in history, art, culture, and science, and ensure that vision is consistently reflected across the Institution.In This Position, You Will* Ensure consistent messaging for diverse audiences, including the Board of Regents, senior leadership, congressional stakeholders, donors, and internal staff.* Draft and edit SI-wide communications for the Secretary and senior leadership on a wide range of topics, including policy announcements, life safety issues, and new initiatives.* Plan and coordinate content, agendas, and logistics for the Secretary’s all-staff meetings and the Board of Regents’ Annual Forum in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary.* Lead and manage the work of a small staff by setting priorities, defining roles, and assigning work based on organizational needs and employee capabilities.### RequirementsConditions of employment* Requires career/career-conditional status or eligibility.* Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service.Conditions of EmploymentQualification requirements, including one year time-in-grade at the next lower grade level for promotion candidates, must be met within 30 days of the job announcement closing date. For this position, specialized experience is defined as 1) drafting and editing high visibility written communications, including materials attributed to senior leaders; 2) translating complex or technical information into clear, accessible language for diverse audiences; 3)supporting organization wide communications efforts by applying established editorial standards and style guides; ensuring accuracy, consistency, and tone through research and coordination with subject matter experts; and 4) assisting with communications related to organizational policies, initiatives, or time sensitive issues.Your resume must be no more than two (2) pages and should clearly demonstrate how your experience aligns with the responsibilities and specialized experience required for this position. Instead, provide detailed, descriptive information about your actual experience.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
