Base pay range The Cook prepares food that meets current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations by following established policies and procedures. He or she ensures that safe and high quality food service is provided at all times. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalency, two years of experience in a high-volume kitchen, and a current Safe Food Handler certificate. The candidate must have the physical stamina to perform all duties and be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Fluent English speaking and writing skills, good time management, and professional appearance and conduct are required. Responsibilities Prepare food items to order following recipes, maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards Follow safety and sanitation rules Restock supplies and take inventory as needed Prepare and serve food according to weekly menus Wear hairnet and gloves during food preparation Assist teachers with food and cooking activities Manage food stock rotation for classrooms Prepare and serve refreshments for events Be aware of children with allergies Deliver and clean water jugs daily in classrooms Clean appliances, equipment, utensils, and floors daily Prepare bagged lunches for field trips Deliver food to infant and toddler classrooms Stay updated on legislation and maintain food manager’s certification Record refrigerator and freezer temperatures Clean kitchen and cafeteria areas Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old High school diploma or equivalent required Provide all necessary medical and background checks as required by state regulations Able to lift 50 pounds, sit on the floor, and interact with children Demonstrate emotional maturity and good judgment in crisis situations Experienced cook with knowledge of nutrition principles Maintain a food manager’s certificate High standards of cleanliness Maintain CPR, First Aid, blood borne pathogens, fire extinguisher, child abuse, and neglect certifications Maintain TB test or health clearance Additional Details Seniority level: Entry level Employment type: Full-time Job function: Management and Manufacturing Industries: Staffing and Recruiting Referrals can double your chances of interview at Amazing Explorers Academy.
