The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the philosophy of the institution. Essential functions include performing all responsibilities required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is crucial for the integration of information used by the healthcare team. Completing initial assessments upon patient admission and developing appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs are vital tasks. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifications to the plan of care are made based upon continuous evaluation. Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety includes reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication with others, directly and in private when necessary, is important to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand the knowledge base. Identifying own learning needs and taking initiative to begin appropriate solutions is expected. Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is essential.
