Internship Program

Why Project Turnabout Is a Standout Internship Partner for Colleges Colleges are increasingly asked to place students in internships that are not only educational, but ethical, supportive, and genuinely formative. Students want real-world experience. Institutions want placements that align with learning outcomes, workforce development goals, and student well-being. That combination is exactly what Project Turnabout offers. A Mission-Driven Learning Environment Project Turnabout is a long-standing nonprofit providing substance use disorder and gambling disorder treatment in rural Minnesota. Interns are immersed in a professional, interdisciplinary healthcare environment where their work directly supports recovery, community health, and long-term outcomes. This is not observational learning. Interns are treated as emerging professionals and integrated into meaningful, supervised work aligned with their academic programs. Paid Internships With Housing Support One of the most significant barriers to internships, especially in rural or nonprofit settings, is access. Project Turnabout intentionally removes that barrier. Paid internship positions Housing provided or supported Structured schedules that respect academic requirements This model makes the opportunity accessible to students who might otherwise be unable to pursue unpaid or high-cost placements, supporting equity while strengthening the workforce pipeline. Strong Fit for Multiple Academic Disciplines Project Turnabout regularly hosts interns from a range of programs, including: Psychology and behavioral health Nursing and healthcare programs Criminal justice and human services Communications, marketing, and nonprofit administration Internship scopes are developed collaboratively to meet academic requirements while ensuring students gain applied, resume-ready experience. Supervision, Training, and Professional Development Interns receive structured supervision from experienced professionals who understand both clinical practice and educational expectations. Students gain exposure to: Evidence-based treatment models Ethical and trauma-informed care Interdisciplinary team collaboration Rural healthcare systems and challenges Professional documentation and compliance standards For students considering graduate school or licensure-track careers, this experience is particularly valuable. A Launch Point for Careers in Behavioral Health Project Turnabout views internships as workforce development, not short-term labor. Many interns leave with: Strong professional references A realistic understanding of clinical and community-based work Connections that support future employment or graduate study For colleges focused on placement outcomes and long-term student success, this matters. A Reliable, Values-Aligned Partner for Institutions From an institutional perspective, Project Turnabout offers: Clear communication with faculty and internship coordinators Respect for academic calendars and learning objectives Ethical, supervised environments aligned with accreditation standards A proven track record as a rural nonprofit healthcare provider This is a partnership-ready organization that understands higher education expectations and treats interns as students first. If your department or career office is seeking a paid, high-impact internship partner that offers real responsibility, professional mentorship, and housing support, Project Turnabout is worth your attention. What role does technology play in gambling addiction and treatment? The reality is, we live in a world where everyone has a smart phone. Landlines are ancient, and technological advances seem to bring us farther and farther away from actual connection. Technology isn’t the enemy, but there’s a reason why we don’t allow phones during your treatment stay on Vanguard. You have a story worth sharing, and someone out there needs to see it. Creativity and Recovery go hand in hand. Discover how art and creativity support addiction recovery by reducing stress, building self-awareness, and helping people reconnect with hope.
