Summer Camp Assistant Director - Encinitas

Job Details Location: 1500 S El Camino Real, Encinitas, CA 92024 Camp Dates: 6/22/2026 (Mon) – 8/7/2026 (Fri); includes one weekend to set up, one weekend to breakdown, and an orientation date Camp Hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm (actual shifts will vary) Hourly Wage: The hourly rate for this position is $20.75 – $23.25 per hour. Pay range is offered in good faith; actual compensation depends on experience and other factors. Overview At Steve & Kate's, we put radical trust in kids so that they learn to trust themselves. You’ll sharpen leadership skills, learn new ones, and collaborate with interesting people in a creative, playful environment. The job in a nutshell is to help run all facets of a self‑directed camp. Responsibilities While working with a Camp Director, you will: Build relationships with parents and campers, help them overcome fears, discover passions, and find their groove at Steve & Kate's. Train, lead, and inspire a team; oversee day‑to‑day operations to keep things running smoothly and safely. Occasionally manage camp operations without the Director on site, including opening or closing the location. Serve as a training ground and pathway for future director roles. Facilitate activities; some staff may create or oversee activity spaces in which campers self‑select activities (examples include sewing, stop‑motion animation, maker space, performing arts, arts and crafts, recreation, and more). Qualifications Job Requirements At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required Bachelor's Degree preferred 2 months of experience working in a camp or 1 year in an education or child care setting required Consent to email or text communication from Steve & Kate's upon applying/accepting an offer May be asked to chaperone campers on off‑site field trips as needed Additional Job Requirements Past management or leadership experience preferred On‑site camp management is physically demanding (standing, outdoor work, and occasional exertion) Meets local camp director qualifications or has been a Steve & Kate's Camp employee Physical Requirements This position requires compliance with applicable immunizations, employment physical/screening, and health and safety training. You will work in person in a school‑aged camp setting to provide supervision, care, program delivery, and services in accordance with Steve & Kate's Camp and partner policies and applicable laws. The role requires working with children in a safe environment.
