Senior Tax Manager

Distinct | North America

Tax Manager / Senior Tax Manager

HNW, Generalist or Business Tax

$150,000 to $180,000+

You can be good at a lot of things in tax. That doesn’t mean you want your next job to involve all of them.

Maybe you enjoy getting into the detail with HNW families. Maybe business tax is your thing. Or perhaps you like having a mix and wouldn’t want to give that up.

This firm is open to all three. They want to understand where you’re strongest, what you enjoy and what you want more of in your next role, then shape the position around that.

They’re an independent CPA firm of around 50 to 100 people. Client demand continues to grow, and they’re looking to add another experienced tax professional to the team.

The client base includes HNW individuals, multigenerational families, trusts and estates, alongside closely held businesses and their owners.

Depending on your focus, your work could include:

  • HNW tax compliance, planning and advisory
  • Trust and estate compliance and planning
  • Complex individual returns
  • Partnerships, S Corps and C Corps
  • Multistate matters
  • Direct client relationship management

At this level, you’ll be trusted to manage relationships, review complex work and advise clients directly. You’ll have experienced people around you to talk things through with, without unnecessary layers of oversight.

There’s room to contribute beyond your own client portfolio too. Whether you enjoy developing people, improving how work moves through the team or helping build an area of the practice, your experience will carry weight here.

And the hours are realistic.

Nobody is pretending busy season is 40 hours a week, but they don’t expect 65+ either.

Busy season typically averages around 55 to 60 hours. Once it’s over, people go back to a normal working week.

The firm has invested in getting this right. They brought in an external consultant to review hours, engagement and turnover, then made changes based on what they found.

Staff turnover is low, and people tend to stay.

You’ll need a CPA or an EA and the public accounting experience to review complex tax work, support colleagues and advise clients confidently.

You don’t need to have decided to leave to have a conversation. If this sounds closer to what you want from your next role, get in touch and I’ll talk you through it.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a resume made up, just reach out on LinkedIn. If you want to explore a genuinely different kind of senior tax role, apply in confidence or message Imogen Talbot Slack at Distinct North America to talk it through. Feel free to text or call View phone number on click.appcast.io.

If you're not sure about this role, feel free to reach out as I have several others you might be interested in.
